Does anybody have any info about what Sybase can do with triggers and
how this compares to Rdb ?
I have read through some old notes in the conference & someone has
mentioned that sybase can update through a view of more than one table,
so long as one table only is updated.
Our customer is looking for this type of facility and Rdb can't do this
- I don't think he's seriously considering Sybase, but I'd like to nip
it in the bud !
I've managed to pick up some useful info as to other things that Sybase
can't do as well as Rdb, but can anyone give me more details about how
Sybaase uses triggers & any problems around that area ?
Thanks,
Sarah.

Do yourself a favor, and change the groundrules. Sybase will easily win
a triggers comparison with Rdb. Sybase wants to stay with technical
issues. Instead, talk about support, logistics, backup, recovery,
VAXcluster capability, SMP capability, ability to support LARGE
databases, available development tools, standards (especially SQL).
Rdb has advantages in all those areas.
Sybase always prefers to fight on the technical side. They will
generally win the technical arguments (DB architecture and all
that). Their triggers implmentation is very extensive. But it has to be.
They use triggers to do things like referential intergity. We already
have RI through constraints. Keep this battle on business and
operational issues or you will have big problems beating Sybase.

Thanks for the advice, that's what I suspected was the best ploy after
having had a browse through past notes on Sybase, so I'll play it that
way.
