A (very big) potential customer has been cheated in the past by all our
    friends style ORACLE, INGRES etc.

Benchmarks were run, and, surprise surprise, once they went into real
production, the performance was not what was promised during the
    benchmark-tests...

As we have three platforms (VMS, ULTRIX and RISC you know...), they
asked us if we have comparative benchmarks run of the same database
under the same configuration and workload on the three platforms.

If we could tell them what the impact of the OS on the performance was,
we would have gained a lot of confidence and professionalism towards
    this prospect.

So the question: can anyone out there help me ?????

	Which Database ?

Digital doesn't have a database which runs on the 2 platforms (VMS &
ULTRIX), and we don't (officially) do benchmarks on competitive
    products.

The only vendor we have a relationship with in this area is
INGRES, and you're customer already seems to have rejected them.

| You will find no side-by-side comparisons.

The Oracle agreement forbids the release of performance information by
any licensee. Sybase also plays it "close to the vest." Even Ingres
will not allow performance results released on a trial license, which
is the type normally used for such benchmarks.

In other words, don't waste your time looking, but use the "no release
of performance" situation to create a defensive posture in competitive
    vendors.
