How can I best counter Model 204 ? I have a Corporate Account
which is forming a committee of several divisions using Model
204 who want to reduce mainframe costs. This is an opportunity
to displace IBM processing. I am in real need of suggestions
on approach to feed this committee reasons to migrate to VAX.
Obviously Rdb should be a player here.
WHAT APPROACH, KNOCKOFFS, COMPETETIVE ADVANTAGES, M204 BASHING,
ETC. ANY SUGGESTIONS, WAR STORIES , ETC. WOULD BE HELPFUL.

Since Model 204 is not a relational model dbms, because there are not
any conversion tools, or even any communication paths between these
two very different systems, there are MANY things to onsider before
trying to get your customer to think Rdb. I have worked with Model 204
on a very large, multi-year development project, and would be glad to
give you some of my own ideas. Pls. send mail to me at Towns::Buzzerd,
or call, DTN 341-2874. I think the issues might (and should) prove too
lengthy for this forum.

Pam Buzzerd

| 460.2 | TIME MAGAZINE says it's a winner | NUTMEG::SILVERBERG | Mon Oct 30 1989 15:40 | 10 | |
The recent issue of Time Magazine had a story about CCA & Model
204 which was very flattering. One customer indicated she found
204 to be 100 times faster than DB2. CCA claims to have 750 copies
of the product installed, & is licensed for $100K.
If you cannot get the copy, pls send your name & mailstop to me
at NUTMEG::SILVERBERG & I will forward a copy.
