| | Hello, Jeffrey.

The biggest issue with Oracle on Sequent is where does the customer get
commercial applications? After all, we are talking about a parallel
processing UNIX machine, not the most common animal. The Oracle
implementation on Sequent is good. However, often the price of the
Oracle software plus Sequent hardware is higher than Rdb on a VAX.

Allbase is HP's proprietary database. It is really a comibination of a
relational database, Allbase, and a network model, Turbo Image. There
is an HP SQL interface to both databases. The Allbase tools are also
available for the VAX Rdb environment. They are sold by HP as
Allbase/4GL. They are sold for the VAX Rdb as TODAY by Computer Power
in Australia. And yes, they are very effective tools.

As for the HP database, it is brand new. Unclear how effective the
relational part is. Turbo-Image has a very long track record in small
    applications.

I'd dispense with Oracle/Sequent as a "niche" solution. No applications
    software, lack of support, etc.

The "lack of applications" issue should have some effect on HP as well.
