In my part of the world, ADABAS and ORACLE sells like hot cakes.
There is no single RDB/RALLY site in my country at all and this
is extremely tough for our sales colleague to propose our RDB/RALLY
against the more popular ADABAS/NATURAL and ORACLE.
In the past our RDB could not measure up to these products but as
I have understood from recent sales update, RDB's performance
has improved drastically and with our powerful 4GL, I believe it
is time to launch an aggresive promotion of our own products.
To begin with, it is necessary for me to convince our sales colleagues
that we have a superior product set. To do this I need competitive
info on how to fight ADABAS/NATURAL.
Any contribution for is most appreciated.
Thanks

Each of my items I list below is AS HEARD from a ADABASE representative a year ago AND NON-COMMITAL in every imaginable sense. 1)ADABASE sees a cluster as a network and not as a cluster with all the problems, which belonges to that e.g. AI-Journalling, deadlocks etc. 2)It uses inverted lists and a relational-like interface. You have to allocate enough space for the lists and the metadata. Dynamic expansion above the allocated space is not possible, you have to UNLOAD/RELOAD. 3)Their performance is better because in their benchmarks use their equivalents of DBKEYS. I'm sure in V3.0 of RDB we will outperform them. I'll think of more. To be fair I must say that ADABASE is a good product and very useful in mixed hardware environments. Hope that confuses, Gerold | |||||

With all those support that I got, I am now ready to meet the ADABAS
CHALLENGE. Thank you very much for all those contributions.(especially
to MIKE BOOTH who send me a long, informative but frank opinion
on the topic.). Thanks to MARK BRADLEY for his consultant's report.
