My online bookbuild aborted with the following message:
-DVC-E-TOLONG, device & directory spec too long cannot exceed 48
characters
It's true; the device and directory spec are 50 characters long.
However, I can do non-online bookbuilds in the same directory,
with the LPAHAND doctype and LN03 or MAIL as the destination,
with no problem.
I used ONLINE.HANDBOOK and BOOKREADER on the command line.
Must I somehow rename the directory to make it shorter, or move
all my files to a directory with a shorter name?

| 346.1 | known, documented restriction | VIA::EPPES | I'm not making this up, you know | Fri Jun 08 1990 15:37 | 10 |
| Hi, Mary Alice. This restriction is noted the DOCUMENT V1.2-B internal
notes ("VAX DOCUMENT Writer's Tool Kit Notes for DEC Internal Users"),
page 4-4. I'm afraid you are going to have to rename your directory
or move your build to a directory with a shorter name.
Why this is a problem with online bookbuilds but not with hardcopy
bookbuilds is something that Mary Utt will have to explain, though I'm not
sure we really want to hear it... :-)

| Thanks for your fast responses, Nina and Mike.

I'll change to a shorter directory name. I didn't want to
do it if it wasn't necessary, but no big deal.
