| Hi,
My product is looking to get on the July CONDIST.... If the software
goes on the CDROM does that mean that the documentation must also
go on the Online Documentation Library disk in the Bookreader format.
I realize that SQM requires the .TXT version of the Cover Letter
and the Install Guide for the Software disk.
What can the customer do with this .TXT file?
Is this .TXT file supposed to be formatted? There are known problems
with the .line, .term, and .mail destinations that aren't going to
be fixed in DOCUMENT Version 1.2.

There is a patch available to fix the main formatting problems with
line, term and mail on V1.1. We have it on our system, and the line
spacing is now OK (this was the worst problem before).
The information about this patch is somewhere in the DOCUMENT notes
file.

Thanks for the pointer to that patch. I will try it and see if
it helps. There is also a problem with the way that .LINE and .TERM
handle the translation of the <emphasis> tag. I will bring that
to the DOCUEMENT notesfile.

RE: Is it required that the documentation set be shipped on line in
order for the software to get onto CONDIST?
No. The documentation requirements for CONDIST are simply that
a cover letter and installation guide be provided in TXT or LINE
format. We highly recommend, however, that the documentation be
provided on line as soon as possible because our customers are
begging for more online documentation for the products they use
off CONDIST.
RE: What do customers do with the TXT files for the cover letter and
installation guide on CONDIST?
Customers print them. SQM requires these files so that a customer
who obtains a software kit and a product license can install the
software product immediately (sometimes updates are urgently needed
apply bug fixes, etc.), regardless of whether the rest of the
documentation is available. These files are not used with the
Bookreader and are not included on the Online Documentation Library
compact disc.

| Hi,
Thanks for the answers. I just got back from the MUMPS User's Group
meeting in Seattle. I showed the Bookreader and the CDrom with the
Online Documentation. Many of the MUMPS users had never seen DECwindows
before and it all got a good reaction (except of course for the prices
of the hardware). I had people interested in Document. However,
a lot of MUMPS users use WYSIWYG word processors and were asking
about DECwrite.
The VAX DSM documentation will go on the CONDIST in July. Perhaps
it will make the Online disc when we do the next major release.
