                      Module 6
     Making good use of Resources
I think the title does not fit for the subjects in here
       Process
       Common Process Commands
Executing a command procedure in batch mode (this is the only
       one that fits)
1-11 The page says Common process commands and here is the
Show System command it does not fit in here. All the commands to foloow
are Show Process commands. How are show process commands making use
of good resources???
1-17 Unless I'm wrong the course hasnt talked about login.com yet,
and here we are submitting it in batch. Maybe all this batch stuff should
be in the command procedure chapter (chapter 5), and rename it to
Designing and executing command procedures. This chapter just doesnt seem
to fit. Maybe the name should be changed or the info distributed to
other chapters.

    Hi Wendy,

I have neem reading your comments and am happy to say that
a great deal of them have already been implemented in the
newest version of these first chapters.

I did want to address your questions on this chapter.

First, I have edited this chapter....but the idea of it is to
show students that they have some obvious options about how
to execute a command procedure and that each of those options
has a different effect on the resources of their process.

The introductory stuff is there because we have not to this
point introduced the concept of process, so we have to talk a bit about
it before we show people how subprocesses and batch processes have
different affects. SHOW SYSTEM is just there so students can
take a look at processes on the system.

Finally, LOGIN.COM isintroduced and taught in the prereq course
    for this one...SYSNET I.

    Thanks for your input

    Mel

A bit in this class (the performance module). More in Sys/Net III.
Still more (probably) in Sys/Net IV.

	MAKING GOOD USE OF RESOURCES.
Page 1-8: fifth line: A detached process.
Could the word detached be thick.
Mention the privilege DETACH. If you wanna run a detached process
under an other UIC. Or put it on the instructor page.
Page 1-9: first line: A subprocess.
Could the word subprocess be thick?
          Same for batchprocess.

bullet 7; Melinda <------ change this one in REGNELL

Page 1-16: Example 5-6
Here is the real name of a Digital nodename. Is this allowed?
Otherwise change SUPER to TIDY, like you did before.
Page 1-19a: If you use /NOPRINT then /KEEP will be assumed.
Page 1-20a: Mention privilege GROUP and OPER with the /ALL_ENTRIES.
GROUP shows all jobs/entries in your group
OPER shows all jobs/entries in all groups

| | Making Good Use of Resources
	Chapter 6
Overall Comment - Change the title to something like
			Processes in the VMS Environment
1-6	First bullet could be confusing for the students. If it is
a detached process they won't log in. Please explain this
	better.
1-7	Excellent table
1-8	Please correct "There are several reasons create these"
1-9	I really like this page. Good summary.
1-10	Right before the second bullet the number 13 should be moved up
	a line.
1-11	Include a third bullet by the N on the far right.
List the possible letters that may appear in that field
	and what they represent.
1-14	Bullet two - Last sentence. This is not continuously updated
	on the screen.
	Maybe define a "job tree".
1-15a	The second qualifier - Spell out the word privilege after the
	word WORLD.
1-16	Bullet two Maybe add the statement that it will default to the
	current process.
1-19	Maybe add the following qualifiers.
	/KEEP /NOPRINT /NOTIFY /LOGFILE[=file_spec]
1-21	The examples on page 21 and 22 are good.
1-24	The first sentence is written twice.
1-25	Stress that for this command line the word "INTERACTIVE" must
	be in capital letters.

| | I think the revised draft addresses all the comments except these:
>1-6 First bullet could be confusing for the students. If it is
> a detached process they won't log in. Please explain this
> better.
We're talking about a detached interactive process, which is what
you get when you log in. Is there some way we can make this clearer?
>1-10 Right before the second bullet the number 13 should be moved up
> a line.
Nope; this is how the output looks when the file spec is longer than a
certain width.
