| 187.1 |  | STOPIT::RUSSELL | I'm sorry, I haven't a clue. | Mon Oct 17 1988 12:52 | 15 |
| | Jerry, just leave it to the clusters themselves, as they change
    their own names, without any help from us!!

    For example, I connected to ADG; a control/T tells me I am on FOOT,
    as does a sys$node, but NOTES insists I am on STOPIT!!

    In the meantime, why not be boring, and call them
    something like UCGxxx,

    UCG01, UCG02, etc, or

    UCGDEV, UCGSUP, UCGTST, etc.

    Peter.

    Apparently STOPIT has been set up as a cluster alias, so the NOTES
    server is now uing that name......

    Peter.

| | For INCH, YARD, FOOT and MILE how about

    RULER,

    Or trucated IMPERIAL, MEASURE etc.

    Or as 1992 approaches METRIC.

    For CHEST, COFFIN, CRATE how about,

    KITBAG,  OLDBAG,  trucate CONTAINER

    For SUPPORT cluster,

    JSTRAP :-)

    Ian and Rich.

	For the BETA cluster, we could use JOKES:: after the BETA schedules,
	and rename the nodes to BUG:: and FIX::
	Could we rename the ADG cluster from STOPIT:: to FIXIT:: please.
	How about MISFIT:: for the SUPPRT cluster, as there is no logical
	link between HEAD and VULCAN.
	For the FUTURS cluster, we should use FUTURE, as it takes a few
	weeks to get any response.

How about MORGUE for the CHEST,CRATE COFFIN cluster
and LENGTH for the INCH,YARD,MILE,FOOT cluster ?
BTW mild applause for whoever changed the meaning of FOOT and CHEST
from bodily parts to their current alternative meanings

	ADG Cluster;
	I'll go along with the measurement idea, but as 1992 looms how about;
	CENTRE::
	CENT as in centimetre.. and RE as in two letters which make six chars.
        (It is also our core of development... or supposed to be :-) )
	Support Cluster;
	METEOR::
	As Vulcan is an old RAF super-bomber, and Head is the top, how about
	a true 1st.... The Meteor WAS the first jet fighter... (Was used by
	Commonwealth countries during the Korean Campaign...)

	Futures Cluster;
	As it consists of "CHEST,CRATE,COFFIN" how about...
	BELLA::	( As in Bella L'Agusi.... :-) Any old Dracula fans left..?)
	And NO I don't want the first prize... :-)

| | Sorry to be pedantic & rathole-ish, but was the Meteor really the
    first jet fighter? Monday nights excellant history-of-avaition BBC2
    program, Reach for the Skies, had a long bit all about the
    Messerschmidt (sp?) 262, the first jet fighter which came into service
    during the latter years of WWII.

    Sorry again,

    Chris

    That is one option that is being considered. Another is CURRNT -
    to reflect the version of VMS being used. In this scenario, FUTURS
    would be ok, but I think SUPPRT has already gone, so we would need
    to dream up some other variant!

| | Instead of SUPPRT - PILLAR (as in supporting the whole structure).

    ADG could be NOW (as in current versions)

    FUTURS could be NEXT or WILLBE

    BETA could be ORFUL (ORder FULfilment of course, what did you
			    think I meant?)

| | I've compiled a list of valid DECNET node names and set up an
    electronic polling booth on NECK::

    To cast your votes execute @NECK::SURVEY$DIR::SURVEY.COM

    NB - After the last question the program writes an empty file in your
    current directory called ALIAS.Survey_taken. This is just an empty
    marker file. Delete it if you want to, it's there to remind you that
    you've already taken a survey. Of course if you do delete it you can
    vote again, but that would be cheating!

    Voting will stop on Friday 28th October.

    of colons to include in the SURVEY command (ooops). The names
    polling most votes are -

    CURRNT  (33%)   for FOOT/INCH/YARD/MILE
    FUTURS  (41%)   for CHEST/COFFIN/CRATE
    PASTIT  (25%)   for VULCAN/HEAD
    ORFUL   (66%)   for URIAH/HEEP
