I think perhaps I should expand a bit on the note since although
I have had some very interesting and some useful replies, they, in
the main haven't been what I wanted to know.
First of all the VAX version of BASIC was a typo it should be
..... V2.4 ...... with the next possible version refering to
	V3.0
I realise that there are a multitude of differences between V1.6
and V2.0+ (VAX) BASIC and that the differences in COMMANDS and
FUNCTIONS etc are readily found in the language and user manuals.
What I really would like to find out is if there are any known
unsupported features that although claimed to be supported in
the various manuals, for example SYS() calls which may produce
unpredictable results or different results in VAX BASIC than
those generated in RSTS/E BASIC +2
Another main question is - Is the file management system IAM /
IAX supported in VAX BASIC V2.4 and if so will it remain supported
	in V3.0 ??
I hope this makes my query a bit clearer !!

Nope. never was, never will be.

    So much for easy migration...

| | If you want to check on differences between VAX BASIC V2.4 and V3.0,
I suggest you log on to the SUPPRT cluster (VULCAN or HEAD) and
enter BASIC. You can then read the release notes in the BASIC
    help-file.
I don't know exactly how long it's been installed, but V3.0 of VAX
BASIC has certainly been available on VULCAN for at least 3 weeks.

    Interesting point ......

The large cluster in Brussels has V3.1 of VAX BASIC.

		Re : - .2
I my memory serves me correctly, VMS/Basic DOES support
	the ISAM file structure.
The only problem is that RMS is the default file
mode, and that if ISAM files are needed you have to bypass this
with the use of whats known as QIO's.
But, before anyone asks, I don't know how they work and
come to that I never used them.
