| | FUTURS has not gone up to VMS 4.6 because a) Current development
    work 'requires' that it stay at 4.5a for a while yet and b) there
    are some 'orrible bugs in the print symbiont in 4.6 which could
    screw up DQS and leave FUTURS without printers.

    PASCAL 3.5 ??? Why not - if there are no objections then I'll install
    it on 28th Sept.

		Jerry, thanks for installing V3.5 of Pascal on Futurs,
	but, how come the ADG cluster has revision 223 and Futurs only 196 ?

| 67.3 | Go fo it (V3.6) | CHEFS::PLATTP | Pete Platt | Mon Nov 09 1987 10:35 | 10 |
|  |      Iain,

    Its all quite simple really! Pascal V3.5-196 is the 'official' SDC
    version. Pascal V3.5-223 is really Pascal V3.6 in disguise and this
    compiler includes support for SCA ( Source Code Analyser ) and it
    therefore much more useful than the SDC version.

    Simple when you know...

    Pete' Platt.

| 67.4 | Pascal V3.6 ... DEC has it now!! | CHEFS::PLATTP | Pete Platt | Mon Nov 09 1987 10:44 | 12 |

    Hi again,

    I forgot to mention that the real Pascal V3.6 is now available.
    It will run on VMS V4.4 or later and even VMS T5.0 (well, so they
    say). This should be the version that is put up on the Futurs cluster
    and maybe even the ADG cluster.

    Is n't life fun...

| | Quote from the Pascal V3.6 release notes:

                      VAX PASCAL V3.6 MAINTENANCE FIXES

     o (SPR 11-94828) The compiler occasionally generated incorrect
        code when creating the length field for UNSAFE,CLASS_S
        descriptors when the parameter was a string expression. This
        problem has been fixed.

    We have actually put up Pascal V3.6 once (on FUTURS), but now have
    some evidence that the above mentioned problem has NOT been fixed.
    Until we have clearer information on this point, FUTURS has reverted
    to, and will remain at Pascal V3.5.

    Steve
