I don't have any FOCUS V6.* documentation, so can anyone tell me
if and how it is possible to have field names longer than 12 characters
in .DEF files ? TABLETALK seems to only read the first 12 characters
on my FOCUS V6.1 system and sticks the rest of the field name into
the comments display.

Aren't you asking a bit too much for a FOCUS upgrade?

Seeing as no pearls of wisdom or enlightenment were forthcoming from
this conference, I rang Information Builders here in the U.K. to get
their response.
They state that a number of their customers have now raised this problem
and a "New Feature Request" will be submitted to give support of field
names longer than twelve characters in help (.DEF) files. Until the
feature is implemented at some future date, we will have to live with
the present situation.
C'est la vie...
