Is it true that FOCUS has run-time performance problem ?? Is there
anymore known problems concerning this 4GL ?? A customer of mine
wanted to know more about this 4GL. They have evaluated Powerhouse
and KnowledgeBuild and they are wondering whether FOCUS is any better
than the two.
Any contribution of opinion is appreciated.
Zahir.

Hello, Zahir.
> Is it true that FOCUS has run-time performance problem ??
Have a look in the SHIRE::FOCUS conference. There is a couple of
notes there about run-time performance (with some figures collected
through experiment)
Hope it helps.

| 227.2 | comparative info needed | MSAM00::ZAHIRYUSOF | Mon Jun 26 1989 05:42 | 5 | |
Thanks JD. I've already read some of the notes there. Now I need
some comparative info between FOCUS 4GL against KnowledgeBuild
and Powerhouse. I am also interested to know if FOCUS can integrate
with all-in-1 and CDD/Plus.

| 227.3 | FOCUS in ALL-IN-1 = MRE | MLNOI1::MACCANI | Mon Jun 26 1989 07:18 | 12 | |
For a Focus - ALL-IN-1 integration look to the MRE ( Management
Reporting Environement ) product. (FOOT::MRE_INTEREST conference)
It fully integrate the FOCUS reporting into ALL-IN-1.
FOCUS is not integrated with CDD/Plus.
Best regards Maurizio
(For further MRE details mail me at "Maurizio Maccani at MIO" )

| 227.4 | Forms - Powerhouse; Reports - FOCUS | PIGGY::JAIDKA | Mon Jun 26 1989 09:27 | 16 | |
FOCUS is very poor in forms, compared to Powerhouse, but it is much
more powerful in reporting capabilities. Coding any forms (FOCUS
Modify) that require data validation can be rather a tedious task.
Typically, validations are performed only after data has been
entered in all the fields on the screen. Since most users like
to know right after entering any field whether the data that they
have entered is incorrect in any way, this is a particularly
undesirable feature (?) of FOCUS.
After having used Powerhouse for almost 4 years and Focus for a
little over a year, I would consider designing all the screens in
Powerhouse and the reports in FOCUS. The only exception to this
would be a system that ties together a bunch of reports with different
user defined sorting and selection criteria. Here FOCUS' global variables
and Dialogue Manager capabilities far outdo anything that Powerhouse
can offer.
