I'm quasi-responsible for several clusters, most of which are running
the current version of VMS - V5. The only cluster up under V4 is
at V4 because our focus people say that the current release is not
approved (by IBI) to run under V5.

    Anybody ever try it?

I've heard that a new version of focus should be available in
July. Is V5 computability expected? If not, is someone screaming
    at IBI already?

| I have upgraded this Microvax to SDC V5.0

Post upgrade, a couple tools and the Vaxmate server (PCFS) were
not very happy. Something to do with moved global sections and
V5.0 denying priv's to some images linked before 5.0. Relinking
took care of the tools (SWING, WHAT). No .OBJ around for PCFS so
I'm still trying. I don't have FOCUS installed.

The V5.0 release notes mention this incompatibility.

| Indeed, most everything runs fine (better) under V5. Rumor around
here had it that FOCUS needed a relink to run.

Not true. We've now got it running on one of our V5 clusters without
any problems. A IBI rep confirmed that V5 is fine.

We do need to get a relinked version here as we would like to install
(as in $Install /open/share/head) FOCUS. We've got one on the way
linked with no traceback but no one seems sure what version of VMS
IBI will be linking it under.

Anybody ever ask IBI why they don't distribute the objects for on
site linking, like a real VMS software product?
