| | Michele,

To try and help a bit further:-

Key point 1 you mention, Siemens DK using 3964R. I don't know whether
DK is correct, but just check most times we talk RK, thats Rechner
Kopplung (Commputer Connection) 512, this is an interpreter that allows
you to address specific areas and describes the format of a data packet
that is sent using the 3964(R) data transfer protocol.

Key point 2 you have a preference for OpenVMS AXP.

The ASSETS solution "Vax Simatic 3964", this has the part no.
Q2-GFH**-** and you can find it under VTX, ASSETS, manufacturing,
this gets you the description. To get docu contact one of the
above, ASSETS tell you to order it from SDC. Ok this solution
is OpenVMS VAX, it is not yet supported under OpenVMS AXP, however,
    it may well work.

The other solution BASEstar 3964 DAS is also available from ASSETS,
this uses part of the "Vax Simatic 3964" package, to do your data
exchanges you use BASEstar Classic Services and/or ILAN calls.

Synotec is a small systems house here in Germany that specializes
in communicating to Siemens, they have a number of products and will
do anything for a price. They don't have an Alpha system as yet so
they probably don't have a solution yet. Of course you'll have a
problem with support and it wont be a Digital solution.

For suitable amounts of money we Digital-PCS could get the
"Vax Simatic 3964" package verified under OpenVMS AXP. If it needs
modification or furhter development then this can be arranged.
Alternatively you could talk to the ASSETS people in Annecy and
see whether you can persuade them that there is a general need for
this solutions under OpenVMS AXP and whether ASSETS will fund the
    update.

Could your customer consider an alternative solution to 3964, i.e.
SINEC-H1 or SINEC-AP, that is use Ethernet as opposed to RS-232?
For the SINEC network stuff there are interfaces and software from
Siemens, there is also software from DEC in the form of DECosap,
this is already running on OSF1 AXP and the engineering team are
bringing up DECosap OpenVMS AXP as I write this note, so this will
be a worldwide product in the near future. Notesfile CESARE::DECOSAP
is the place to post questions. Of course if you go the Ethernet
route then FTSIE also becomes a possibility for file transfers.

| | Hello Michele,

in JAN-1984 i developed a VAX MACRO module named DUST3964/VMS and we
sold it to a lot of customers in conjunction with SIMATIC S5, TELEPERM,
SICOMP M and SICOMP R. Now i have (user compatible) rewritten this
emulator in C language. I have installed it on a Alpha AXP/VMS by using
a TELEPERM system. It works fine and the customer seems to be happy.
So, if you are interested, please send me a mail.

customer in PRC, This has been specifically developed for R30
connectivity for that cutomer requirements, Field test is
completed and ready for delivery.
	3964R DAS for R30 Process computer .
	3965R DAS for M70/M50
3974R DAS for French Scales .
	3805R DAS for US Scales.
All are siemens protocols and are ready for cutomer delivery.
Contact me if you need any of the above protocols and also let me know
your customer requirements, We can suggest any modifications are required
