| Having worked on that problem as well I found, that the lastest version
of MEP-OSI (from INTEGRATA) will support 9750 on the PC.
According to what they have told me they use an ULTRIX system as a
relay to map from conventional DECnet to VOTS (TP 4) via XTI which is used
as a transport feature for the connection to their 96xx frontends. No
specific software is needed on the BS2000 apart from SIEMENS DCAM V11.
The option will be available around March 93 (should be demoed at
CEBIT).
No performance / sizing data for the ULTRIX server was available. Also
my liaison at Integrata was not able to tell me about whether/when it
would be available on OSF/1 AXP. However he stated that INTEGRATA has
moved to partable C programming as a baisis for their product
development (which should make it reasonably easy to do the port).
INTEGRATA software costs per PC should be round DM 1.000,-- which they
think will make it competitive to other 97xx emulation solutions.
Theoratically TELNET could be a cheap alternative. Having talked to
some people from the "scene" I got the message, that the mapping from
TELNET to 97xx on the BS2000 would we still cumbersome. (This mapping
is something similar to TN3270 on the IBM).
