I've just bought a Rotel 930 amplifier, which I'm very pleased with.
However I've just discovered a shortcoming compared to the original
amplifier I had.
The only switchable speaker combinations are:
position 1 Speakers A (+headphones) only
position 2 Speakers A (+headphones) and Speakers B
Can I achieve the Speakers B only combination by simply switching the A
speakers out? Would the amplifier mind the A output going open circuit?
I imagined it was ok to do this since the instructions tell you to wire
the (single pair of) speakers to the B output if you want the following
combinations:
pos 1 Headphones only
pos 2 Speakers only
It seems to me that this would result in the A output being open
circuit with the switch in position 2, therefore ok.

Dick, If the instructions say you should set up with no connections to the Speaker A outputs to get the configuration you want, then I woudl expect that the amp is constructed to do just that. You could check with the dealer and/or the importers for a more authoritative response. The reason I dont like to see open circuits on the speaker sockets dates back to valve amps and the possibility of blowing output transformers. Regards Dave | |||||
