| | Got one, at the Richer sound price.

Sounds great, loads better than my old Sherwood Dolby (not prologic)
    decoder.

All the reviews seem to like this as well, however What Hi-Fi says it's
    a bit dated for the price (300 quids), but a 169, I couldn't resist!

| | Gregg,

Do you have any problems with it not having a remote control (or is
this just a nice to have) ?.

Do you know whether it can be fed from the variable line outputs of a
TV (ie. to give master volume control from the TV remote) ?

I've got the option of getting one for 150 (the last in Richer Sounds
Southampton which I've reserved) but I've also got the chance of the
Pioneer decoder (v200 ??) at a similar price. Haven't seen any reviews
    for this though.

I bought this decoder at the Richer Sounds price and am generally
pleased with the sound, but I have noticed a couple of points that I
have been thinking of phoning up Morduant Short about, and would be
interested if other users have noticed the same:
1: A low background hiss on the rear surround speakers, I am only using
R+L rear speakers, driven by the internal amps on the decoder, front are
driven by my Hi-fi amp. I currently have no centre or
sub-woofer. The speakers I am using are 8ohm 2 way
2: A loud `spike' sound when powering off the unit even when both
surround and master volume are set to minimum. Again only on the rear
	surround speakers ?
Any ideas or similar findings ?
	Thanks,
	Simon

I have both the hiss and the spike. I only noticed the hiss on a
dialogue only film, when I happenned to have my ear about 6cm from the
    rear speaker!!

The hiss seems to be 'standard', at least my older surround did this.

The book mentions the spike as a feature!

Still Mordaunt Short were very helpful when I rang 'em, so I'd be
interested to see what they say about this hiss.

| | BTW For anyone thinking of buying this, you'll need speaker plugs. The
MS supplied ones are cheap n nasty!

| | Simon,

| | Simon,
I read in either Home Entertainment or What Video that the Mordaunt short
had a revision to correct the noise in the rear channels.
Try contacting Mordaunt-Short to see if they can do the upgrade on your
unit.
Rob.

| | Spoke to Mordaunt, you have to ring 'em with your serial number, and if
the system hasn't been upgraded you can return it to them for the
    upgrade.

    Cheers,
