I don't know if this is the right conference for this, but it seems the
most likely. Recently FM100.30 has been broadcasting a 'countryside'
signal. Everytime I've tuned in, all that has been playing is a
soundtrack of birds singing in a meadow (images perceived) with
occassional cows or a dog in the background. This is excellent stress
management stuff, but I was wondering whether this could be a new
station about to appear. Any ideas?

i don't know if its the right conference either, but i'll answer
anyway!
yes, its a new station - Classic FM or some such. they did test
broadcasts of classical music from a number of transmitters (including
one near Edinburgh) during the spring. i forget what the frequency is
up here (preset 13 on my tuner). brian johnston recently mentioned
hearing the 'cow sounds' during a rain-interrupted day of TMS. yes, it
is v. theraputic stuff 8-)
back in the spring the test broadcasts were of light, popular,
classical music; i think that's the aim when they go live as well.
if you keep listening you'll eventually hear an announcement
