has anyone any experience of the inards of philps/marantz cd players ?
It strike me that if you use a CD player as a transport then there may
be some benefit in removing/disconnecting the analogue circuitry that
comes with the original player.
I've not opened up my Marantz as it's still under warranty so 'I'd be
interested to know if they use edge connectors from p/s to analogue
board or is it all hard wired.
the next thing is how the dickens do I disable all those facilities I
never use (shuffle play I ask you ! try listening to the "Ring" with
all the tracks in random sequence for a surreal experience !)
Any thoughts ?

My Micromega is based on a Philips 582 chassis, and has several unused
edge connectors on the main PCB. The Micromega DAC has ribbon cables
connectinng it to the main PCB, with nice DIL plugs/sockets on the DAC
end but hard wired onto chip legs and PCB at the Philips end! The
digital output comes from the Philips bit. Maybe your Marantz uses a
similar transport?
Isolating the internal DAC will only likely benefit
the sound if the DAC and transport use the same, power supply -
unlikely in a Marantz. It may also cause problems due to the output
that normally goes to the internal DAC being unterminated; I don't
think it is any different the output to an external DAC, but loading
this with a 50 ohm resistor can help the sound, so an unused internal
feed may benefit from the similar termination.
The only way to be sure is to whip the lid off and have a look; so long
as you don't do any damage the warranty shouldn't be voided. I don't
know how you've resisted it for so long ;-)
