For the same price as the twin you could get an excellent Yamaha or Aiwa with
HX PRO, and that makes the difference.
Clearly, two cassette decks for the price of one means some compromises have
been made on the two decks, maybe this is what you have been hearing.
You said that for another �70 you could get a twin with HX PRO, I guess the
follow on from that is, you are now not that far away from being able to afford
TWO quite reasonable single deck cassette decks.
Putting my money where my mouth is, I bought a Yamaha in preference to the
pretentiously boxed Aiwa of the same price (�130) about 18 months ago.

| I've just bought a Pioneer ct-445 which I'm very pleased with. After
dithering for ages, I was persuaded by a sale at B&B Hifi. They have
reduced the price from �180 to �140 and have possibly got some more
still available. I assume that it's an obsolete model.

| This sort of follows on from the previous replies (I didn't buy a twin
deck)
What's the best way to do a cassette to cassette copy given the following?:
Pretty good, single, tape deck (Pioneer 445)
Reasonable amplifier (Rotel 152)
Mediocre ghetto-blaster (Panasonic something)
Almost top end Sony Walkman
At the moment I'm going Pioneer -> Panasonic, which is the only way I can get a
match. The Sony and Panasonic's outputs are just headphones and the Sony has no
inputs.
I would imagine that the best way would be Sony -> Pioneer, leaving the
Rotel out of the chain, but how would I match the headphone o/p to the 63mV
58k^ input on the Pioneer?

| I would have thought the Sony's headphone output impedance was
sufficiently low, and output level sufficiently high, to not be unduly
overloaded by your quality tape deck's input.� I.e it should be well
below 58K and pump out well in excess of 663mV.

| Buy a jack to Phonos lead. (Tandy?) If the cable is shielded you
should have no problems this way, the Sony's volume control will adjust
the output.

| Yes it works. I've been using my walkman to play, and copy, tapes through
my hi-fi for years. My walkman is better quality than my tapedeck as
well as being auto-reverse. The level is about right when the walkmans
volume is set to 5, (out of 10 max). I made a headphone jack to phone
cable for a few pence.
