Hi folks. I've been busy enjoying the music for 14 years on my existing
HiFi - Garrard DD75 with Shure M75EDII, Sony TC161SD, Lindsley Hood
75W amp and tuner and Tangent TM1 monitor speakers - any of that
bring back memories.
Now I've decided to upgrade i.e. start again ! It comes from listening
to what's available now and hearing the difference though it comes
at a price ! So current thinking is
Denon DCD 1700 CD player or the New 1520 when it arrives
Denon DRM 24HX Cassette
Exposure X Amplifier
KEF 104/2 Speakers
Rotel RT850 Tuner ?
Now do I need a preamp ? or Can I make my own input selector
with a motorised volume pot (the only remote function important
to me beyond the CD) and drive a power amp directly. If so any
recommendations which one.
Also any comments on reliability of above. That's one thing I can't
check by listening !

A power amp is all you need if you don't plan to use records any
more. An input selector and pot like that sold by QED should do
all the functions you need, apart from remote volume - you may have
to DIY that.
You may find the KEFs you suggest outclass what's driving them unless
you spend a lot on a power amp. Listen to as many options as you
can - without getting confused(!) - before you buy.
