| Points of interest in the area kind of depend upon what interests
you...
London is a 40 minute train ride away: full of all the usual capital
city type stuff - theatres, shows, museums (or is that musea?) etc.
Stonehenge is a 40 minute car journey away: not as good to visit as it
once was - you used to be able to carve your name on the stones, now
they keep you at a respectable distance!
Basingstoke itself is not badly served for a provincial town: superb
concert hall (doubles as theatre / general purpose venue), roundabouts,
cinemas, ice rink, bowling, roundabouts, characterless housing estates,
roundabouts, lots of nice country within easy reach once you've passed
the last roundabout.
As for weather, we had freezing conditions and snow at the weekend but
today it's a balmy 7� and rain is imminent: so I guess `changeable'
might capture the spirit, but basically `temperate' is probably what a
meteorologist would call it.

| Friday or Saturday night down the George pub at the top end of town.
Now that's a point of interest. There are better pubs, but you (a) need
a car and (b) the "interest factor" will be lower.

| The George is this long pub that plays dance/house music at one end and
rock at the other. As you walk down it, the clientele changes from
16-year old clubbers to your hardened bikers.
It is the busiest pub in the town centre (aside, perhaps from Chicago
Rock Cafe - which I can never get into). Sticking to bottled beers is
probably a safe bet.
As for the "interest factor" - it's a good place to pull.

Don't wear trainers or jeans is normally the
answer to that.

I do not wear trainers out (give me some credit). The excuses range
from "Too busy" through to "Too many blokes".
As to regards whom I pull, I go for those who seem interesting, not
based on what their wearing.

A source who knows one of the CRC bouncers said that from 8pm
they let some/most guys in, dress-code allowing . After 10:30
pm they only let couples in as it's normally quite busy , and
at some arbitrary time between the two they stop groups of
single men entering unless it starts emptying a lot ! .
So guys, there you have it, a now essential part of Friday
night drinking kit .... a long blonde wig and high heels ! .
While I'm here , can anyone suggest a Gallery or interesting
museum in the surrounding area which is open on a Saturday ?
( Other than the Basingstoke Museum in the market square that
is ! ) .

| Hmm, still doesn't fit with the 6:30/7ish I arrive and meet 3 male friends
who arrived together earlier.
7:30-8ish one chap arrives with 2 young ladies to meet those of us
already there and is turned away for trainers - 2 out of the 3
other chaps were also wearing trainers.
It'd be just so much easier to know who was allowed to wear
what when......still I've got in each time, it just bugs me having
to leave again shortly after when friends arrive and are
refused entry.

Maybe it's an evenings only dress-code ? . There are plenty of
pubs/restaurants that let trainers/jeans etc in through the day
(as it's less busy and they want your dosh !)and tighten things
up in the evening . It's an easy way of cutting down on numbers
,especially males who are a little more likely to be dressed in
this way I'd say , and otherwise I guess they'd have to just go
by the look of your face / dress-sense etc . Not sure which
would be worse !!!
