| | So how much is this hard cash ?
I have a friend who has the larger model which is in mint condition
and is worth 200 pounds.
I on the other hand have lost mine but still have the little one
minus a wing and a couple of kids :-)

| | Well, well, well.

Further to this discussion I raided my attic at the weekend and
uncovered a little treasure trove of model cars all in their original
boxes, including the affore mentioned CCBB in mint condition. These
must be between 20-25 years old.

I've been advised that the best way to get an idea of their value is to
go to a toy fair and compare the prices of similar models.

This leads me to the question - Does anyone know of a toy/model train
fair in the near future in the Basingstoke/Winchester/Southampton
    areas ?

| | Roy,
I'll give you some idea of the value of whatever if you have , Dinky,
Corgi etc, you'll see loads of similar examples at Toy Fairs ..prices
    will vary quite dramatically.

If you have a mint 'thingy' but no box it might be say 30 quid. If
you have the box as well (mint) then the 'thingy plus the box' could be
worth 200 quid.... not a bad price for a box.......

As far as the CCBB goes 200 quid is current market value for mint &
boxed. Corgi have however just re-released the model, but this has so
far had no effect on the value of the original. The current model is
only available by Mail Order and is mounted on a wooden plinth and
    costs 80 pounds.

Current 'toys' that are worth checking out particularly are ----

anything to do with Thunderbirds (just back on the tele so it's helping
    to push up prices).

Magic Roundabout (also back on TV).. Anyone remember a Corgi Gift Set
which was basically a layout of the Magic Roundabot ??? Cost about 6
pounds in the early 70's but didn't sell coz it was too expensive...

Current value varies depending on condition, extra corgi figures
(Dougal, Florence, Dillan etc...) Mint/Boxed (approx 600-800 pounds)

Guess who's got one of these ????

    Rob

| | I think I'll dig up my hoard of old Corgis. All are still boxed and
some in mint condition. The oldest I have, is a 1962 MG in green still
boxed with 2/9d written on it, that's 2 shillings and 9d, old coinage!

    Anymore info on Toy fairs?

    Cheers Richard.

Toyfairs happen regularly.. Around the country there will be on average
5-10 over a typical weekend. Large'ish' ones in this area are -

Farnham Maltings (250 tables) this means 250 traders
    selling/swapping new/old diecast,plastic etc.

Sandown Park (largestin Europe 500 tables)
    	Kempton Park (300 +)

There's even a toy fair arranged for BAsingstoke (Richard ALdworth
School) sometime soon (midweek I think).

The unfortunate problem with visiting such places is that you tend to
find out what a vast fortune you could have had . ....if only the old
corgis and dinky's stayed in their boxes.

FWIW... Anyone got a mint/boxed Dinky Vulcan Bomber. If you have it
will go at auction for at last 5K !!!!!!!

    Check your lofts....

I'll post some dates of local'ish' toyfairs...

If anyones really interested in all this stuff... (I wasn't until one
day I discovered that there was POUNDS involved!!!)

then you should be buy 'Collectors Gazette'. It costs 1 pound and can
be bought from most Newsagents (certainly WH SMiths, Beatties also in
    BAsingstoke).

There is a new monthly edition just released (last week). It has
details of ALL forthcoming Toyfairs, and also loads of adverts from
traders trying to buy and sell. You'll get a good idea from the adverts
whether you havesomething valuable in the loft.

with the intention of watching their value increase, or are they just
"forgoton"?

| 524.11 | Toys vs. models | KERNEL::RHASKING | Fine time to leave me Loose Wheel | Tue Feb 04 1992 15:26 | 23 |
| | John,

All of my toys got really bashed up as a kid. I havn't got a single
mint/boxed item left from my younger days. The only M/B items I have
now are ones that I have bought for the sake of investment (hopefully).

I know for a fact that some people bought 2 items of every toy (1 to
play with and 1 to keep boxed).

You might consider doing the same today, but it is too late. There are
still toys that can be bought as toys but kept in mint condition. Their
value will rise but it is difficult to spot the toy to buy. (Ninja
    Turtles perhaps ???)

Corgi and Dinky still sell 'classic items' but they are now purchased
as models and NOT as toys. The reason that things like Corgi CCBB,
Batmobile, Thunderbirds, Bond etc are valuable now is because very few
were purchased to be kept in a box. Hence there are now reasoonably few
    mint/boxed versions left in existence.
What about you Roy ? How come your's are still mint/boxed ? Didn't you
bury them in the garden like most other kids ???

| 524.12 | When I were a lad... | KERNEL::SHELLEYR | Looks like he hit the tree Jim | Tue Feb 04 1992 15:32 | 15 |
| | Well Jc, when I was a kid I used to love toy cars and was spoilt rotten
by my Dad who bought me these things quite often. Basically, I remember
that some cars I played with till the wheels dropped off, but others
(fortunately quite a few) I carefully removed them from the box and
and put them back. When I had grown out of playing with them they were
all kept in a large box up the loft of my parents home and transfered
to my loft when I got my own house several years ago.

If it wasn't for the base note (thanks Karen) they would still be up
there and to be honest if I came across them I would of probably given
them to my 4 year to play with !

Well that's my story. What about you Richard ?

| | We used to use the boxes as garages! Between my 2 brothers and myself
I'd estimate we have about 60-70 boxed cars. We all tended to have the
same models, for ex. we've got at least 2 possibly 3 Mercedes 600
Pullmans complete with winscreen wipers C. 1968 absolutely in mint
    condition.

I may even be able to retire form DEC! :)-
