158.0. "WILDCARDING INSTRUCTIONS " by ESPN::LABBE (Julie Labbe DTN 269-2186) Thu Jan 19 1989 11:30
    Wildcarding is done differently on Retrieval Screens vs. Report
    Screens.  Directions follows:

    RETRIEVAL SCREENS:

      To find all variants of a specific part basic:

      1. With cursor in the Part ID field, press the FIND key
          (if using VT1XX, press 'GOLD ,')

      2. At the prompt: "Enter query expression", type in the
          operator CONTAINS followed by the part basic or a
          portion thereof within quotation marks:

          Example: Enter query expression: CONTAINS 'RA90' <RETURN>

      3.  An asterisk will appear in the Part Id field at this point;
          press <RETURN>

      4. Fill in remaining fields as you normally do and press <RETURN>
          to execute the query.

      This will retrieve all 2-5-2 parts containing RA90 including
      all available CLASSES and VARIANTS.

    REPORTS:

      To find all variants of a specific part basic:

      1. With the cursor in the Part Id field, type in a portion or
          all of the part basic followed by a percent sign (%):

          Example:  RA90%

      2. Fill in remaining criteria fields as usual and press <ENTER>
          when in the last field to execute the query.

      This will retrieve all 2-5-2 parts containing RA90 with all of
      the VARIANTS. To retrieve all CLASSES as well, input should be
      preceded by a % as well:

          Example:  %RA90%

      RULE OF THUMB FOR WILDCARDING IN REPORTS: the inquiry with one
      percent sign (RA90%) will be faster than with two (%RA90%) - if
      you know there are no class identifiers with a specific part,
      using only the trailing % will result in quicker response.
