| 57.1 | Identifying Revenue vs Non-Revenue | CINEMX::COPUSER78 | Tom Malomo | Mon Oct 17 1988 15:55 | 24 |
| | Steve, although we will be replacing the DEC-10 COPIS System with
    the VAX COPIS System, all users must use the DEC-10 System as the
    "live production" System until we officially shut down the DEC-10.
    In the meantime, you should continue runnig parallel reports from
    the VAX and asking us questions as you have done. Now to answer
    your questions:

    Why is the data different?

    In terms of revenue vs non-revenue, both systems consider IEG orders
    as non-revenue. However, there are other non-revenue orders that
    are identified differently by the 2 systems. The DEC-10 treats as
    non-revenue, any line item with a Unit Price of zero. This is no
    longer the correct way to identify non-revenue. The VAX COPIS system
    uses the field called Authorization Type to determine non-revenue.
    This field came into being when OPVAX was replaced by the FOCUS
    system.

    Which System is correct?

    The VAX COPIS System has the correct logic to determine revenue
    vs non-revenue.

| 57.2 | Non-revenue shipment numbers | HYEND::STAYLOR | Steve Taylor 297-4270 MRO1-1/M13 | Tue Oct 18 1988 10:48 | 23 |
|  |
   	Tom, thanks for your help. However I'm still confused and maybe
   you can help me some more. It appears that you are saying that the DEC-10
   calculated non-revenue counts differently from the new system since the
   DEC-10 included any line item with a unit price of zero. In the Users
   Guide for the new VAX system, it states the following concerning the
   Revenue Field for the shipments screen;
	"Only IEG is considered non-revenue"	Page III.6-1
   	"Currently, only IEG for USA and Europe will be included in the
   NON-Revenue data. Rotation and consignment data are included in the
   revenue data."	Page III.6-6

   	If the new VAX system has only IEG data, which is the way I think
   it should be, why would the numbers from the VAX system be 30% higher
   than for the DEC-10? With the explanation in 57.2, I thought it would be
   the other way around.

   Any help appreciated,
   Steve

	As it has been a week, could someone please provide me with an idea
of what to expect when you cut over to the VAX exclusively. Why are the
numbers higher on the VAX for Non_revenue shipments?
Thanks,
Steve

	As the date for the switch-over from the DEC-10 to the VAX comes
closer, I'm feeling less comfortable since no one has explained the differences
I continue to find each month on internal shipments. While internal ships are
not critical by any means, it does impact the total shipment number and more
than that, knowing the reason for the difference is important.
	While I know you are extremely busy with enhancements and solving
day-to-day problems, could you look into it? I would feel a lot more
comfortable if I knew why the systems were different. Is it only this isolated
case due to the part number?
	If the difference continues, you must be prepared to defend either the
DEC-10 number or the VAX number. As has been stated, the DEC-10 is the official
number to use until the transition to the VAX is complete. Once that happens,
we need to know which number is truly correct not just switch from one number
to another because the computer system is different.
Thanks,
Steve
