    I have a question on upgrading a HSD30 to a HSZ40. Are the backplanes
used on both devices, the same? If so, why are we limiting the 16 bit
bus structure of the HSZ40 to the disk? If I understand this right,
you can only use 8 bit from the HSZ40 to the personality module on the
BA356. Can anyone shed any light on this? Also, is there a 50 pin to
68 pin SCSI cable that can be used from the HSZ40 (which is narrow SCSI
50 pin) to a wide peronality module ( which is wide SCSI 68 pin).

    Thanks,

| My understanding is that on the BA356, you'll need the 8 bit peronality
module (ba35x-mg). So, between the HSZ and the BA356, it's the standard
    BN21H-01 that is required.

| Hi Art, The quick answer to your question is: None of the HSx 30 or 40 controllers will address wide devices in wide mode. Therefore, there is no need for a wide SCSI cable. Yes the HSD30 and HSZ40 use the same backplane within the BA350-Mx shelf. But, only the 50 pin HD cable can be used. Wide devices will work when attached to the device SCSI buses, but in narrow mode only. Cheers, John I | |||||
