Can somebody point me to the right person/office....

I have a request from a large OEM customer for permission to use
copyrighted content from one of our product reference manuals -- a few
pictures and selected text -- in a instructional guide they are putting
together for a specific project. Who should I be talking to about
    this???

    Many thanks,

    Randy

| I don't have any names off the top - although given some time I might
be able to find some for you.

In the meantime, you have two choices:

First, you could refer to the Digital Legal Department for guidance.
Copywrite does not necessarily mean that the material cannot be used -
it does mean that Digital owns it and has the right to control its
publication. If the large OEM is doing a Digital related project,
permissions to use (rather than waivers) might be possible.

Barring a quick connection with Legal, any knowledgeable Digital MARCOM
person will probably know where to direct you - especially someone who
    specializes in editing..

One thing to watch out for when a third party uses any of our printed
material is timing. Our statements may become obsolete before the OEM's
do - thus possibly having contradictory Digital statements circulating
at the same time. The other concern is positioning and context - a
valid Digital statement used out of context could create an invalid
impression. I am assuming you are involved with this account and if
they are engaged in this project on Digital's behalf, I strongly urge
you to get some Digital MARCOM assistance to avoid any unforseen
    beartraps.

Anyway - hope this helps; if I catch a name for you I'll post another
    reply.

    Good luck.

| Or you could be like a university I know that has placed our entire DSNlink manual out on web pages. I was looking for our page when I found it. At least they left the copyrights in place. Pretty funny when you consider that at one time we weren't even allowed to have the manual available for anonymous copy internally! This web publishing/copyright stuff is getting really interesting. liesl | |||||

They've all got it online. /AHM | |||||
