The addresses entered in the previous note points to MCS folk in Tokyo.
For what it is worth, I have a VT382-F2 in Sydney. I borrowed it from
the Japan MCS group in Ogikubo office whilst my group was developing
software for Japan MCS users. This VT382 supports kanji characters
which may be slightly different to the Chinese character set. A
contact in the HK office that may be able to help is the Asia MCS
Operations manager.
If the VT382-F2 is acceptable, there is a good supply coming out of the
Ogikubo office as they are upgrading most of their equipment to PCs...
bargains for sure! It is probable that there would also be a good
supply from the HK office when they upgrade their destop equipment.

| VT382-C and VT382-F are different from VT382-D.
VT382-D being requested supports "traditional Chinese" character set.
It was originally designed and sold in Taiwan and HK market. It has
around 20,000 characters build-in - 13K in double bytes and 6-7K in 4
bytes. The entire VT382 family was designed by Japan CSS. I remember
the terminal unit was manufactured in Taiwan and the keyboard was
manufactured in US.
Given the corporation's downsizing in the past few years and the sell
off of the terminal business unit line, the support of VT382 terminal
family is now unknown. I bet that nobody in the corporation could
answer your questions. My understanding was VT382-D was never
successful and could not meet its volume forcast in its
target market.

FWIW, Japanese version of VT382, i.e. VT382-Fx, was phased out last
year, although you can ask about that product in JRDV04::JRDSUSTAIN .
I don't know nothing about Chinese version VT382.

| The VT business was sold to Sunriver Datasystems last October timeframe. The
VT500 and Dorio series were transferred to Sunriver but the Asian terminals
were not transferred but phased out by business decision. Our Japanese
version VT382-FC was phased out this March with last build in January. All
the VT terminal lines in Taiwan Plant have been removed and most of related
people left Digital.
Therefore there is no source for VT382-DA nor inventory.

| Whow, sorry I'm late on this.
I work with a customer who are using a 3rd party terminal (the CT700 from
Pacific Data Products) in Taiwan. This has a Hanyu interface, but PDP
may have a version which supports the full traditional character set.
On the other hand, we have convinced this customer that the writing is
on the wall wrt Asian characterset terminals. Most companies (not just
Digital) have discontinued their production due to falling demands.
These never were a high demand item.
We are now putting together a proposal to convert their configuration
(retail 'roll-your-own' PoS) from VT based to PC based. I have not yet
encountered an Asian characterset that cannot be successfully emulated
with off-the-shelf TE software.
