The local delivery organization gave a customer a firmware upgrade for
a DEC 7000 system. the part # ordered was QZ-K62AA-L8. Can anyone give
advise on how future system updates are supposed to be delivered? Does
the customer receive them as part of a warranty or service? Or is the
customer to be billed for the update? I've called around the company,
and no one seems to know........or care enough to return my calls.
Thanks for your help,
Carl

RE: -1 I checked your part number, but found a different suffix
on it. Looks like the product is sold through our service
providers and they should be able to answer your questions
regarding the level of service the customer has purchased.
If they need to purchase it, VAX 7000 CONSOLE UPDATE,
the P/N is: QZ-K62AA-U8, USCLP $500.00.
Note: Your request indicated a DEC 7000, but the part
number is pointing towards a VAX 7000. I'd give your local
MSC office a call, they should have the resources your
looking for.

I used to be the product manager for the referenced parts. The
QZ-K62AA-L8 should only be ordered for internal use. The QZ-K62AA-U8
is for external use and can be ordered by customers though DECdirect or
their local field sales office.
For further information, the current product manager is George
Gardner, STOWOA::GARDNER. He can also assist with identifying the
right person in MCS to answer the questions on how should the update
be delivered.
I.e., warranty/service.
