        Yes, they seemed to go fast here at MRO2 -- I picked the last

Has been sighted in the LJO cafe.

Btw, the 'worldwide' Digital Today comes in three different
regional editions -- Americas, Europe, and Asia/Pacific !!

Just a side note:

  Nowadays, some "slick-but-not-so-slick" papers can be recycled.
  In particular, "super-calendared (sp?) paper" is fine.

  I still wonder what alien material that "Guide to Digital
  Security" was printed on. Whoever reported that you couldn't
  write in it sure wasn't kidding! They should coat public
  buildings with the same stuff!

    The second issue of the global Digital Today is now at the printer, and
    should be distributed worldwide at the end of this week in some places,
    but at the beginning of next week for most locations.
    
    If the new issue doesn't seem to be available, give a call to your
    local mail room first.  The copies are bulk shipped to the various mail
    rooms, where the boxes sometimes sit unopened until someone calls to
    ask where the newspaper is.
    
    The newspaper will be published every two weeks, which is less frequent
    that the U.S. version of Digital Today, but more frequent than the UK,
    Europe and Asia Pacific versions.

I haven't seen it either, nor have I heard anybody mention it, so I
guess not.

    Morgan, Digital Today distribution manager.  She's @ako or

    We have a stack of the European Digital today turned up, you have to
    look for them, they are not delivered like the previous UK digital
    today!
    
    Our stack was in the white plastic box/dispenser that used to hold UK
    Digital today!

Can you send it on to my home address?  Then I can send it on to RHC for
the Colchester folks, and perhaps they can mail it down to HHL, who can
in turn forward it to REO, and... con't page 94.

  What is the cost of the "slick" paper vs. the newsprint previously used?
  The newsprint was fine by me and reflected a cost-consciousness we all
  needed to keep in mind.  The slick paper may look better but, for
  internal use, is not required and gives the wrong impression about
  continued cost controls.  Am I outa-line?

the UK's Digital Today has always (or at least as far back as I remember!)
used `slick' paper, but I'm not too concerned about that as it only appears
once in a blue moon, and besides, only has about 2 pages anyway!

The only copy I saw at ZKO was one that was left behind in a bathroom stall.
I haven't seen any racks or piles of the issues anywhere.

The new DT is available on line at \\akov11\dtlibrary for those with 
PC access.  There are directions on how to connect to it in DT.

             akov11 is (24.489 DECNET or 16.151.0.11 TCPIP).

        

In that file service are directories for each month that contain a .pdf
file for each DT.  In the DOS directory is an ACROREAD.EXE that is 
supposed to install the Acrobat Reader.  I havn't tried it yet.

I don't understand why it isn't on the WWW someplace and accessble via 
ftp.  Formats that non PC users could copy and read or at least print 
would be nice too.

issue of the worldwide version and didn't print enough?

    Somewhere, perhaps in a "Digital Leader" ish of about a year-and-a-
    half back, there was a classic letter-to-the-Editor by Brian Reid,
    pleading with The Powers That Be for not YAMM -- (Yet Another Management
    Memo.)  He advocated -- as he normally does, very farsightedly -- that
    such materials be placed on the Web.
    
    Too bad, imho, that we aren't closer to that vision today.  I *know*
    that paper still has a larger reach than the IP EasyNet, but imho at
    least the online version should be in HTML and not in PDF.  imho on the
    last point, too...
    

I just thought I'd pop in and say "Hi" and that I got two copies delivered 
to my desk.

    I work in a small remote office and could spare  approximately 5 of the 
    WorldWide Digital Today's.  The folks in Knoxville read the paper and
    then put the same copy back for others to read so we always end up with
    extra copies.

    Well, a few of them showed up here and I looked at one.  As far as I
    can tell, no one is missing anything.  It appears to be the same
    content-free pap as all the previous incarnations of this thing.
    
    I'll vote for WWW and VTX distribution, and a VERY limited hardcopy
    distribution for those who don't have net access.

    Hello everyone.
    
    For those still interested and following this note, Digital Today
    will soon be available on the WWW and VTX/Integrated Repository.
    As we have learned that our previous Acrobat (electronic) edition
    was not widely received, we have been making great strides towards
    getting Digital Today and some of our other employeee communication
    information vehicles (DVN, LiveWire, The Digital Leader) up on the
    web.  As everything comes to fruition, we'll be sure to keep you
    all posted.

   There is a Web interface into all VTX via the following URL. 

	http://vtx-info.shr.dec.com:888/cgi-bin/vtx

   This will get you to Livewire, etc. Not using the power of the Web and
   associated tools but its not bad. Saves you from having to Telnet to get
   into VTX. So for now I think its good during this transition from usual
   CPU/VMS access to Internet/Web access. If fact it may be a mistake, IMHO,
   to spend money making HTML versions of some of the info in VTX. For
   those folks who only have character cell access, VTX is far better than
   using Lynx (I think). 

   Digital Today using this interface would be fine just for the text but
   should (sounds like it will) be in HTML format with graphics. DVN
   schedules however sound like they could get away with this easier (to
   maintain) approach.

    Hey hey hey!!! They ARE listening! Just read through the September 1st
    issue of Digital Today (available at a stand near you), and there are
    some very interesting articles to read. Customer loyalty, employee 
    engagement & partnership, increased efficiency, and a progress report
    on Digital's commitment to improving customer satisfaction! This looks
    really good! i knew they were listening. (ok, I had some doubts, I'm
    human too ya know 8).
    
    I tried to access the http://vtx-info.shr.dec.com:888/cgi-bin/vtx page,
    to see if I could access the Sept. issue, but got the error: 'Requested
    document (URL http://vtx-info.shr.dec.com:888/cgi-bin/vtx) could not be
    accessed. The information server either is not accessible or is refusing 
    to serve the document to you.' Any hints on how to make it work?
    
    After you read the articles, post remarks, comments, or suggestions in
    this string. Or start a new topic? Whatever makes you happy.
