CDA CONVERTERS
Hello All,
This note answers some VFAQ (Very Frequently Asked Questions) about
SYSTEM CONSULT's CDA converters. Please forward this info to all
interested parties who do not read here.
SYSTEM CONSULT's converter technology will help you to manage most
of conversion questions, which come along with using of different
text processors, having electronic mail in heterogenous networks,
and needs for document conversion in management/imaging systems.
SYCOnvert is based on Digital's Compound Document Architecture
(CDA), and consists of several high-end converters. Most of them are
currently available on Digital's standard platforms (VAX/VMS,
AXP/VMS and, DEC Ultrix). Additionally, most of them run on unix
platforms where CDA is not available like HP-UX, Sun, and AIX.
SYCOnvert supports the following file formats:
ALIS (Office System, Applix), CGM (Computer Graphics Metafile),
DCA/RFT (IBM), DDIF (DECwrite, DEC), DEC-DX (Allin-1, DEC),
Interleaf (Interleaf), MacWrite (Apple), ODA/FOD26 and ODA/Q112
(both ISO8613), PCX (Paintbrush), PICT (MacPict), PCL (HP-Printers),
RUNOFF (DSR, DEC), RTF (Rich Text Format, Word for Windows, Micrsoft),
TIFF (Tagged Image File Format), WordPerfect (WordPerfect),
Word PC (Word for DOS), WPS+ (Allin-1, DEC).

All of the conversion modules convert directly to Digital's Document
Interchange Format (DDIF) which is the in-memory representaion of
CDA, and the file format which is used for example by DECwrite.
SYSTEM CONSULT now follows Digital's pricing scheme, which uses the
system classes Workgroup, Departmental, and Enterprise. This means
that our customers can order licenses separately for single computers
in the class mentioned above. The following table shows the current
prices with respect to the system class and number of conversion
directions:

Example 1: All You want is to convert WordPerfect 5.1 files to WPS+
on a VAX 6110 with VAX/VMS, and get any new versions and
updates.
You will need a 2 directions (WordPerfect and WPS+)

you want to read as many formats as possible on your
DEC 3000 workstation.
