	What you want is the Microsoft Word Internet Assistant. A

	I cranked out a number of documents using this. Works

    Copy the WORDIA.EXE to an empty directory
    double click on WORDIA.EXE in the file manager. This is a self
    	extracting program and will place a number of files in the
    	same directory. One of these will be a SETUP.EXE
    double click on SETUP.EXE. This will install it. Follow the

|  |     Ok,

    So I run Wordia.exe and everything's hunky dory. When I run setup, it
    tells me I'm out of memory. the help.txt tells me I need 4MB or so.
    I've got 32mb main memory and about 30mb local disk. This seems to me
    to meet the 4mb or so requirement. And, of course,
    http://www.microsoft.com/pages/kb/deskapps/word/Q126927.htm (that's
    the page describing this particular error condition) is asleep, my
    system call "connect" failed.

    So, do any of you folks have a workaround?

| | You are missing conventional (ie. below the 640K mark) memory. Windows
    apps, especially SETUP, require this memory (Yes! It's true!). As
    you're technologically challenged, it's difficult to know what to
    suggest. Re-boot your PC, and when you see the words "Starting MS-DOS"
    hit the F5 key; then try SETUP again. If it still fails, then we'd
    better take it off-line.

    Cheers, Laurie.

| | Memory Manager... yes, that's true, I'd forgotten that. Ok, format a
    floppy like this:

    FORMAT A:/S/U

    Then copy these two files to it:

    AUTOEXEC.BAT

    --- cut here ---

    @echo off
    path c:\dos;c:\bat;c:\windows;c:\
    win

    --- cut here ---

    CONFIG.SYS

    --- cut here ---

    files=60
    buffers=40
    stacks=9,256
    dos=high,umb
    lastdrive=z
    device=c:\dos\himem.sys/testmem:off
    device=c:\windows\ifshlp.sys

    --- cut here ---

    Then reboot the PC from the floppy. Assuming you have no device drivers
    driving your disks, this should be enough to get you up and running.

    Cheers, Laurie.

| | Instead of hitting F5, try hitting F8. This will let you choose which
    files to load during boot rather than just bypassing CONFIG.SYS and
    AUTOEXEC.BAT.

    Now, when the system asks if you want to process CONFIG.SYS, answer
    Yes, then when it asks you if you want to execute the line that says
    DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS (your path may be different... the main thing
    here is you are looking for HIMEM.SYS) answer YES... then you may say
    No to all the rest...

    This will load the necessary memory manager so you will be able to run
    windows. Then try setup from there.

    I have 633,504 bytes of conventional memory available, a 15mb permanent

    1K, EMM386 is using 4K, COMMAND is using 3k.

    I have (I lied earlier) 16,777,216 total memory, 916,016 used, giving
    me 15,861,200 of available main memory.

    The last hint....I blew up a spreadsheet this morning because of a
    parity error, but my boot memory tests reveal no problems.

| | well, all I can do now is punt.

    I'm not familiar at all with WORDIA or its SETUP. Is this a program
    which is a Windows App? Or is it a DOS app you are running from
    Windows. If the former, I've nothing left to offer. If it's a DOS
    app, is it possible that it requires Expanded memory? If so, you'll
    need a provider (EMM396.EXE loaded from CONFIG.SYS) since Windows will
    only provide Extended memory resources by itself.

    If you want to try, put a DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM396.EXE in your CONFIG.SYS
    after the line which loads HIMEM.SYS and reboot and retry.

    Tony, WORDIA is a recently released (3/29/95 I believe) Windows app
