Hi All,
Currently, I am preparing a proposal for a big project in Indonesia
(worth USD 35M). One of the key issues is connectivity with NEC
mainframe using ACOS 1520. We will purpose several AlphaServer 2100
with DEC OSF/1.
The feature that are required:
Basic:
- File Trasfer
- Terminal Emulation
Advance:
- File Server
- Process to Process Comunnication.
Could somebody give me a poiter: person, notes etc, so I can receive any
information about this. We cannot get information in Indonesia because
we are competing agains NEC, but we have a better acceptance in the
user point of view.
Any information will be highly appreciated.
Best regards,
Broto

| 3694.1 | OSI or TCP/IP are the likely options | VMSVTP::S_WATTUM | OSI Applications Engineering, West | Tue Feb 14 1995 09:37 | 11 |
Without knowing what sort of protocols the NEC machine supports, it's going to be difficult to provide additional information. However, in general, it comes down to two choices: OSI or TCP/IP Many vendors support both protocol stacks, and it may be even more likely in the pacific rim that OSI would be the protocol of choice. DEC OSF/1 offers both options. For additional information on DECnet/OSI for OSF/1, I would suggest the conference on NOTED::DNU_OSI --Scott

Broto, I don't know ACOS1520. If the OS is ACOS4, we usually use TCP/IP for file transfer and SNA for terminal emulation in Japan. If you don't need terminal emulation of ACOS, you should use TCP/IP(FTP) because SNA products on ACOS are NOT a formal products in NEC. If customers request SNA strongly, NEC uses SNA. And those SNA products are NOT popular in NEC. Most of Japanese users and NEC people don't know them. And remember ACOS is NOT an IBM euivalent computer. So ACOS's SNA products are emulators of SNA. This measn there are some restrictions. In Japan, I know 3 installed based where Digital's SNA Gateway products are used. Satoshi Suzuki/DEC-Japan
