| | How MCS is notified of product sales depends on which geography you are
    in. Are you asking for the US?

| 3467.6 | SMART and SIFU..... | MSDOA::SCRIVEN |  | Thu Oct 27 1994 13:52 | 12 |
| | In the US, the system used to track new shipments, etc., is SMART; the
    contract maintenance database. There is an application which feeds
    from MFG to this database called SIFU.

    Now, if you want to know whether it works or not, we'll need to start
    another note, cozz this one'll get nasty!!!!

    Toodles.....JP

    P.S. SPACE (the european base I believe) will be replacing SMART
    sometime FY96......(Last I heard!)

| 3467.7 | We have a system that does that in SPT | GIDDAY::PHELPS |  | Fri Oct 28 1994 01:48 | 23 |
| | We have a very smart product planning group who have come up with a
 system in conjunction with our mis group that basically works as follows :
	Customer database
	Product line items --------------> SCOOP checks data base line items
					   Any new line items ?
	New product line items ----------> Check against manufacturing system
					     BOMS
	BOMS-----------------------------> Product planning group - BOMS
					    are vetted, then sent to logistics.
	If you would like more info, SCOOP also does subcontractor payment, etc
	based on the no. of subcontracted items, etc, mail me, and I will
	put you in touch with the SCOOP people.
	The system seems to do what we need, it also has a manual interface
	that is Rally based for inquiries, manual updates, changes, etc.
	Steve Phelps.

    Ivan,

    as you are in MCS European time zon I think the tool used to notify
    MCS about new customer orders and shipments is TOP.

    TOP gets data from the order systems (BOPS, COMMAND etc.) TOP also
    gets information about what is shiped to the customer and generates
    the "installation approval" (or what ever it's really called in English)
    that the customer signs after that the installation is completed.

    TOP can also update SPACE (the MCS contract administration database) and
    generate a installation call in NICE (MCS callhandling database).

    /Kjell

| 3467.9 | Thanks Doc | JOBURG::HARRIS |  | Fri Oct 28 1994 04:34 | 13 |
| | Hello Kjell, Hello Doctor, I see you deal with NICE ailments too? That
    is our other headache. Our department controllers and "Call logging
    person have not got there act together and for a year we have been
    limping along without an effecient call logging system. We are about to
    implement (Probably take 5 years!) NICE but there is much dragging of
    the feet. They cannot even get calls logged on ALL-in-1 effeciently. I
    went to Europe in May/June and Visited the CSC briefly (Basingstoke)
    Unfortunately my stay was only one day. Also Digital is not keen on
    Travel so the people who should be getting the show on the road are not
    making use of existing expertise in the company.

    Thanks for your memo on Tops. I will read it and get in contact if
    neccesary. Thanks again Regards Ivan Harris@JHB

| 3467.10 | w/out install !!no notice!! | CSOA1::LESLIE | KENLEY | Sat Oct 29 1994 08:50 | 6 |
| | The way it realy works in the U.S. is if the customer does not buy
    installation and logs a call to have it installed by an MVS engineer,
    he will not know it is there until there is a service call. It
    happens.

| | If I was a client, I would feel that there is no communication between
    "Sales and Services" It seems that this is left up to the people in
    whichever subsiduary/region. Rather than a practical procedure/tool.
    It is understandable if there is no Maintenance/service contract. But
    to get a service contract of a client who has just bought equipment and
    WANTS service (Contract) Cheers Ivan
