| | It really depends on what kind of show you have a booth at, i.e.
    vertical or horizontal industry. I would suggest you demo something
    from the PowerChannels portfolio. There is one vendor in particular in
    that list that has a CAD/CAM package with an AGGRESSIVELY priced Alpha
    PC (WNT I believe) package that I can recommend. Parametric
    Technologies Corporation (PTC) has a high-end CAD/CAM package that
    customers drop their jaw and drool at on the Alpha.

| | Try to find out who was responsible for the booth at DB Expo in San
    francisco a few months ago. There was a DEC booth there called the
    "Tune Up Garage"?????? that showed the peformance difference of Alpha
    to Sun, HP and other competitive systems. It outs the speed issue in
    perspective.

  The Sable Video Server Demo uses a DEC 2100 Server running NT or OSF/1
  as a Video Server for six PC clients, on which full motion, full stereo,
  large screen (640x480) movie clips are played off the server.
  It has been to a number of shows (Comdex,Windows World,etc..) and does a
  very good job of drawing people into the booth AND illustrating the high
  performance of the machine.
  For more information, contact Pam O'Brien (PSDVAX::OBRIEN), who is in
  Sable Product Management or Vince Asbridge (THELAB::ASBRIDGE), who is
  in Sable Engineering.

| 3380.6 | OSF & VMS Demo Kit | MKOTS3::HEISLER |  | Tue Sep 20 1994 13:22 | 21 |
|  |     In MKOTS3::US_DEMO_CENTERS, NOTE 173, You'll find reference to
    an OSF Demo Kit. This kit includes an easy to install and run
    suite of demos. It's been tested up to OSF V2.0. The notes
    conference also have reference to the VMS version of this,
    although OSF offers more due to audio capabilities and a
    few other widgits only supported by OSF.

    Within the OSF kit, one of the attention getters has been
    to run a full screen GIF image (they're available in the
    kit under the demo menu where the image changes every couple
    of seconds). That alone offers you the ability to talk about
    the power of a base platform Alpha just by seeing how quickly
    the images come up. THEN, we run a 3 minute animated window
    in the foreground which comes with Audio and demonstrate that
    not only does a base platform Alpha run the images well, but
    continues to do so with animation and audio running at the
    same time. Then you can add additional graphical windows,
    all found in the demo kit.

    Time Trial Spectacular Stage Show

    The "Time Trial Spectacular" theater uses the metaphor of racing to
    show users the superior performance of AlphaStations in four categories
    -- speed, graphics, multimedia, and system endurance. Featured in the
    superpower speedway are Digital's two-year application performance lead
    with 64-bit AlphaStations against 32-bit "jalopies" from Sun
    Microsystems and Hewlett- Packard and 64-bit workstation first-timer
    SGI; "high-octane" graphics from Digital and Evans & Sutherland;
    multimedia "Moto-Cross," where users don't have to waste time wallowing
    alone, spinning their wheels when they can work as part of a team; and
    system endurance, showing Digital's three-year warranty and 12- to
    18-month lead in processor performance as a marathon lifecycle. One
    audience member at each performance will win stock car driving lessons
    at the famed DriveTech Racing School.

| | That was one of the two demos at SIGgraph, the big computer graphics
    industry convention out in Los Angeles last week. I have no idea where
    the demo came from, though. You might try someone in workstation
    marketing, maybe Dave Ross (avalon::Ross).
