| | 6200 seems like a lot. It's nearly double the payroll of the French
    subsidiary. Any ideas why?

| 2676.3 | due to Kienzle purchase | EICMFG::MMCCREADY | Mike McCready Digital-PCS | Tue Sep 21 1993 05:32 | 8 |
|  |     In March 93 there were
    	Digital Equipment	4700
    	Digital-Kienzle		3700
    	Digital Kaufbeuren	 680

    So there was a large increase in headcount when Digital bought Kienzle.

| 2676.4 |  | BHAJEE::JAERVINEN | Ora, the Old Rural Amateur | Tue Sep 21 1993 06:36 | 6 |
| | Digital was down to about 3600 by end of FY93, i.e. about 23% cut from
    the peak.

    And yes, Kienzle increased the total headcount significantly.

    Digital-PCS is aslo cutting (I think they now have ~250).

| 2676.5 | Nothing official about D-PCS yet | EICMFG::MMCCREADY | Mike McCready Digital-PCS | Tue Sep 21 1993 07:49 | 15 |
| | There has been no official confirmation or denial about cuts to
    Digital-PCS.

    Tomorrow there is a "Digital-PCS Wirtschaftsausschu" (Financial
    Committee) meeting which Klaus Lutz from the Digital Equipment
    Deutschland GmbH (Holding) will attend, and in which we expect
    information about the plans for Digital-PCS to be provided.

    [German law requires a financial committee for all companies with more
    than 100 employees. Management and employees are represented, but the
    committee has no power of decision. Management is required by law to
    provide timely and complete information about major changes to the
    company.]

| 2676.6 | Cuts are planned by the holding | EICMFG::MMCCREADY | Mike McCready Digital-PCS | Wed Sep 22 1993 16:23 | 17 |
| | Cuts in Digital-PCS were confirmed today as being planned by the
    Digital Equipment Deutschland GmbH (Holding). Unfortunately no
    representative from the holding attended today's meeting at
    Digital-PCS, since yesterday afternoon Klaus Lutz cancelled his
    attendance for today in order to be present at Digital-Kienzle in
    Villingen.

    Apparently, and despite an agreement to the the contrary between
    management and the workers' council of Digital-Kienzle, Digital-Kienzle
    employees read of the massive cuts in the newspaper before being
    informed directly. Reporting on hearsay, the press release was
    accidently released prematurely.

    Klaus Lutz has rescheduled his appearance at Digital-PCS for Friday
    afternoon.

| 2676.8 | No closure of Digital-PCS | EICMFG::MMCCREADY | Mike McCready Digital-PCS | Thu Sep 30 1993 12:43 | 5 |
| | Klaus Lutz said that Digital-PCS is not closing. There may be some cuts
    to Digital-PCS, and management is working on a new business plan. That
    is all the concrete news there is at the moment.

| 2676.9 | 25% cut for Digital-PCS | EICMFG::MMCCREADY | Mike McCready Digital-PCS | Fri Oct 22 1993 11:17 | 14 |
| | The latest news about job cuts at Digital-PCS Systemtechnik GmbH is
    that there will be a cut from the 220 current employees down to
    150-160.
    The previous intention expressed in an overall top-down plan for
    downsizing all Digital companies in Germany called for a goal of 88
    employees for Digital-PCS. Klaus Lutz, the Human Resource Manager for
    Digital Equipment Deutschland GmbH (the holding company), confirmed
    today that as a result of the working group established to review the
    business of Digital-PCS, the number 88 had been replaced by 150-160. In
    other words there will be a cut of 1/4 instead of 2/3 - painful, but
    not quite as disasterous as the previous plan.
