If the firm in question is Drake, Beam and Morin, this whole idea is a crock
as they have _not_ been successful in completing placement for "all the DEC
people". As a matter of fact, they haven't successfully placed _any_ of the
several ex-DECcies I know of whom avail themselves of their services.

| In my opinion, if they actually did place all the ex-deccies in good
jobs, I would not mind rewarding them. Maybe they'll be doing the same
for us.

| From what I understand (having had the pleasure of informing
ex-employees about the DBM 'benefit'), is that DBM is not expected to place
employees. Rather, they are supposed to assist the employee in finding a
job by providing resume services, counseling, telephone answering
support and the like. They do not attempt to match employees to jobs;
they are not an employment agency.
This seems to be standard business practice in US industry. Probably
corporations want to keep an arms-length relationship with the ex-employee,
presumably to avoid being held accountable for an ex-employees inability
to find a new job.

I spoke today with a former DECcie who has just found a job...Thru
DBM...And he knew several others who had �been helped by them in the same
way....
I was glad to hear the news from him, I will be in need of their
services within the week...

| I talk with someone who is "attending" DBM daily and the one thing she missed
greatly is they do not have any hooks into the internet. The misc.jobs,
ne.jobs, misc.jobs_offered etc posting are not available to her. Everyone
shows up with a newspaper.

that's too bad, considering how cheap and easy it is to get usenet groups
these days. I have a list of companies offering internet/usenet access in
the UK for around �10 a month, I expect it's even cheaper in the States.
