    The new list of the top 10 UNIX Companies was released by UNIXWORLD
    Magazine in its December issue.  Digital dropped from the number 4
    systems vendor in 1991 to number 5 this year.  The top 5 UNIX vendors
    in the systems & software catagories are:
    
    Systems
    --------
    1).  Hewlett-Packard
    2).  Sun Microsystems
    3).  IBM Corp.
    4).  NCR/AT&T Computer Systems Group
    5).  Digital Equipment Corp.
    
    
    Software
    --------
    1).  Oracle Corp.
    2).  Informix Software
    3).  Sybase, Inc.
    4).  Ingres Div. of ASK Corp.
    5).  The SCO Inc.

    I fail to see the connection.  Is there some evidence that Cutler
    holds any enduring loyalty towards Digital?  Even if he does, he
    works for two most hardball, bottom-line managers in the industry.
    If they do anything that benefits Digital, it's only incidental to
    their goals of making Microsoft the dominant force in computers.

    I was being ironic.  In spite of Cutler's shares I don't think the fact
    NT resembles VMS or any other DECnocentric view of NT makes any
    difference.  It has, however, given the UNIX-haters another reason
    to continue neglecting an operating system that, more than Windows,
    has eaten into our VMS installed base.
