| | I would take Mr Levine's statement in the larger context of the
       company that he represents.

Cabletron is one of New Hampshire's faster-growing companies; it's
also one of the most controversial. In the past few weeks, local
newspapers have reported that Cabletron has written a series of
letters to each of its suppliers, pressuring the suppliers to
support Cabletorn's preferred gubernatorial candidate. According
to Mr Levine, Cabletron feels it is perfectly proper to choose its
suppliers only from those who contribute to certain political
       candidates.

Earlier, other news reports told of unusually high numbers of
people who were hired by Cabletron (sometimes from other
companies) and who were summarily fired within a few months.

I'd be _very_ wary of information whose source is Cabletron.

Mr_Topaz is correct. My father-in-law was on the Rochester City Council
and has some hair-raising stories to tell about Cabletron.

I believe Mr Levine gave this story to the Globe
becuse he was angry about his companys "Brain Drain"
and its his way geting back at DEC.

I also believe their is a lot of truth to it.

| | Having used Cabletron products, if we did what Levine said, we're
    better off for it IMO.

Levine is a strange character though. About 3 years ago a client I
consult for decided to go with Cabletron for their LAN and extended LAN
setup (~$100-125K in purchases). They got some of the MMAC (multi
media access centers) and some HP LANprobes. A discrepancy (sp)
between the two LANprobe and the Cabletron network software prompted
the designer of the system to call Cabletron. After being passed
around trying to resolve the question/problem, one Cabletron employee
said he would fly out and take a look--he was concerned. The Cabletron
rep. came out and spent the day looking at the configuration, listened
to comments by the designer, and offered some suggestions. When he
left, the designer was dumbfounded when he saw the business card he was
    give--Levine's.
