     Morale has a very real value to a Corporation with human beings working
for it.  While this particular soire� seems to be more elaborate than some,
they are hardly the only site doing this kind of thing.  Since the article 
mentions "special rates", I'm wondering how much of this is being picked up by
their management.  Nevertheless, it is not such a terrible thing.

    Frankly, I would be happy to tell my next door neighbor who got a very
    generous opportunity to find a new career about the party.  Now, if he
    or she had been laid off in traditional GM, Ford, or Chrysler style,
    I'd think twice.

    The traditional GM layoff includes 2 years pay and benifites covered
    under union contract at which time benifites are lost and pay is cut by
    1/3. There are many plants around here in Ohio that have closed and/or
    have people layoff. Some of those affected are my next door neighbors. 
    They do not just get 2 weeks separation pay and never have. It will be
    2 plus years before those layed off will affect GM's bottom line.
    
    Now FLAME to simmer
    
    It sounds like a pure case of sour grapes to ridicule someone who takes
    the TFSO plan. I suppose you would have preferred them to say "No thank
    you I would prefer to just get 2 weeks severance pay or maybe I'll just
    quit and save DEC even more money". Enough said. That kind of
    ungratefull snoobery for their, in many case, years of hard work for
    this company is totally uncalled for. Many who got the TFSO package
    have families and as far as I'm concerned my family comes first and
    I'll do what ever I have to to protect my family including accepting a
    TFSO package if one is offered to me. You should try some compassion
    some time towards your fellow employees.

    In Flint where the Chevrolet, Buick, Fisher Body, and AC Spark Plug
    plants were located, GM would close down the plant for "model changes"
    for two to six weeks with NO compensation until the UAW forced them to
    negotiate.
    
    Even GM has learned in the last 40 years.

    	Nowhere in the article in .0 did it say, or even hint, that DEC
    	was paying for some/all/any of the bill.  It's taking place on
    	a sunday at a downtown hotel.  Doesn't sound company sponsored
    	to me.  But, none-the-less, it would not be wrong if they made a 
    	contribution toward the event as an indication of appreciation,
    	regardless of the present hard times, for the contributions that
    	that plant made for many years.
