I've been looking through the 'orange book' (personnel policies and procedures
manual) but have been unable to locate a policy that even comes near this
subject.

Does anyone have any experience along these lines?

	See section 6.10 in the" Orange Book", employee activities, it seems that this activity would fall under Corp. Employees Services juristiction. You might try to locate the "Employee Services & Recreation Handbook" from your Personnel office.

	Any game of chance (raffle) where the profits are not directly in benefit of a charity or public organization are considered illegal in Texas, and the organizers (and participants) could be prosecuted under the Gambling and Racketeering statutes. The only exceptions to the rule are Bingo and Para-Mutuel Racetrack betting (which were only recently approved). I would check the local laws carefully before engaging in this type of infernal, I mean internal fund-raising ... Geoff

	As I understand it, paramutual betting is where the participants bet against each other (as is done at race tracks), rather than against "the house" (as is done in casinos).

	I would advise the local EA group to check with Corporate Personnel for a ruling. We were told that this is against company policy a while back.

	Wasn't that announcement a solicitation? Solicitations for dubious non-business activities are already restricted, as I remember.
