| | If a manager is not willing to cover the full cost of relocation, then
either 1) they are not interested in filling the position with the most
qualified person; or 2) the local talent pool is immense.

| | The name of this game is "expense control", or "make your margins if
you want a raise"! Relocation expenses hit the cost center's profit margins to
the tune of $20K to $50K per move! The receiving manager will control this to
the maximum. For instance, if he can move someone into a one year residency,
and charge the customer a rate that will cover his relocation, AND make his
margins, no problem! That is quite rare! Thus, the "negotiated" move. It is
not unheard of for a losing manager, if his margin is well in hand to
contribute to the "pot", like covering home sale expenses in the old location.
Frankly, the last move I made with DEC was in 1977, and I was single,
no house. I would be interested to hear the manager's name, via VAXMAIL, of
course, and what job you were dicussing.
I am the DPC for the Southeast District, by the way.

| | I'm guessing....
DPC = District Personnel ?????? (coordinator?)

| | Sorry, I should have been more considerate. District Projects
Consultant, or what used to be called District Consulting Coordinator.
Actually the job is the same, just a new emphasis on Projects. I work for the
SED SWS manager, Steve Bate.

| | When putting in a requisition with personnel for an open slot, what
determines whether the collumn labeled "relocation available" is marked
"yes" or "no"? (in vtx jobs_us) I realize the decision is that of the
person making the req. but, what if any, guidelines does he/she follow?
    Are there any written rules?

| | If the Cost Center Manager wants to take the hit in overhead for relocation
costs - and can get approval from HIS management - , he may check off the "Y".

Even women cc managers probably would, don't you think?

That is in fact the only requirement: that you have money in your
budget sufficient to defray the cost, and that you be willing to
    encumber it for that purpose.
