This note has lain dead for a while. Since I saw crystal running
not long ago I can tell the world it is an expert system shell.
I wasn't very impressed, but the person demoing it knew very little
about crystal so maybe I didn't see it at its best.
It seemed to be rule based, but the rules looked to be represented
in a big decision tree whose leaves were questions. I guess it must
have been backward chaining. It was running on a PC and it had an
advisory system for local health authorities (written in the UK).
I was told the reason these people chose crystal was its speed.
It's not much, I know, but it's nice to know something for a change!
