I just got a call from a customer who is experiencing a
problem with dxlsm hanging.
1000A
3.2G
LSM boot disk
PBXGA-AA video card.
Note: LSM "hang" definition: dxlsm starts up fine
but after a few button presses the GUI hangs.
Originally this 1000A was shipped with 4.0B factory
installed. The monitor is connected to the PBXGA
card vs. the base system graphics port. When the
4.0B system booted, CDE would come up black with
a blue box on the bottom. Once again, this is fresh
out of the box install etc. The customer made the necessary
adjustments to start xdm vs cde and continued to enhance
their OS - LSM'ing their boot disk .. They then experienced
dxlsm hangs and chose to trash 4.0B and build 3.2G.
With 3.2G (xdm) they still get dxlsm hangs.
I found it strange that they had a PBXGA-AA when the base
board graphics should be fine. They have no special,
high resoultion, graphics need so it almost sounds as though
they do not need the PBXGA .. I also had them check to
see if the baseboar graphics was "disabled" via the
UNIX ECU utility. It was enabled so we disabled it and
rebuilt the kernel thinking the os may have had a problem
with it being enabled.
The kernel rebuild did not help. I'm now leaning towards
a complete rebuild of the OS with the base system
graphics now "disabled". Also tempted to remove the PBXGA
and rebuild without it ...
I'm rambling here only as a desparate pitch to see if anyone
else has experienced such difficulty.
Thanks in advance

Hi My name is Mike Wallulis. I am currently the lead engineer on dxlsm. I have a couple more questions. Is the hang always with the same button presses, or is it any buttons? Dxlsm has never worked on this machine? Are there any other x applications that are working/behaving the same way (dtadvfs, etc)? Mike W. [email protected] | |||||

Just spoke to the engineer working on site for the
customer in .0. The customer had 4 KZPDA's, 1 KZPAA
1 High Spd Ethernet and 1 PCI graphics controller. The
PCI graphics controller was in slot #1. The ethernet
controller was in the last slot .. he swapped the two,
rebooted and all works fine. Apparently UNIX likes to have
a high speed controller in slot #1 and not a graphics card.
I believe NT likes to have this card in one of the first
three slots .... something to be aware of when moving between
the two OS's.
