904.0. "WNT4.0 on AS1000A installation problem" by VNOMC2::TIMA_179577 () Tue May 20 1997 04:40
	Hi out here,
my customer got an Alphaserver 1000A with 5/400, KZPSC-AA, DE500,
DEFPA, KZPAA + TZ885. The KZPSC is configured with 2 RZ28D-VW which
should be the system disk (RAID1) and 5 RZ29D-VW (RAID5)for
	application data.
The configuration of the KZPSC and RZ's via swxcrmgr works fine,
the formatting of the systemdisk too, in ARCconsole and ALPHAbios
	everything looks fine.
When trying to install WNT4.0 onto the systemdisk (=RAID1 on KZPSC,
logical drive 0) from CD, he is asked for the system type (in his
case 1000A 5/xxx), then the installation starts according to the
status bar by loading all the drivers (also SWXCR-RAID-drivers),
the screen shows the normal WNT startup lines
	WINDOWS NT 4.0 .....
	256 MB Main Memory
	etc
you can watch a last search on the CD and then the installation
	procedure hangs ...
	Any ideads what's wrong ?
	Is WNT4.0-Boot from a SWXCR-mirror-set supported ?
	PS.: ALPHAbios V.5.23
	     SWXCR FW V.2.42

	PPS.:PCI-Config 11 ... S3-Trio-Graphics
			   12 ... DEFPA
			   13 ... KZPSC
			    1 ... DE500
			    2 ... KZPAA

| | When installing NT V4.0 on the AS1000A, DO NOT use the HAL that is on
the CD-ROM. When prompted for the system type, choose Others and insert
the HAL floppy. The HAL floppy is provided with the system. If you do not
have this floppy, it is also available on the web at
http://www.windows.digital.com/support/support.asp.
