878.0. "AS1000A 5/333 and NT4 setup problem." by OTOOA::JPOND () Wed Apr 09 1997 19:14

    Hi there,
    I've started working on a 1000A/333 but I have run into a problem. 
    
    When I attempt to run setup of NT4, I get to the point where the kernel
    starts to load, then it hangs (the blue screen displays with the
    version number, how much memory, etc.) waiting to continue. I picked
    EV5/1000A off the initial list when prompted. When prompted for video
    driver, I picked "other" and inserted the floppy that came with the
    system (which was marked ATI V3.51 NT driver).
    
    When I attempt to run setup of NT3.51, it again asks me for the HAL, I
    insert my AS1000A hardware support floppy (although this time I am not
    given a choice between EV4 and EV5, just "AS1000A") and select AS1000A.
    I use the same ATI V3.51 NT driver as above. However, the setup hangs
    each time when setup attempts to load the CD-ROM driver.
    
    I suspect I have stuff in the wrong slots. I have a  KZPSC-BA, the ATI,
    two DE500's. Only the second DE500 is in the secondary PCI bus.  Does
    anybody have any ideas? Should I have picked "VGA" as graphics adapter
    type during the NT4 install?

    I've discovered my problem with this system. I'm sure that this issue
    is discussed elsewhere in this conference perhaps somewhere, but I
    guess I had to figure it out by trial and error.
    
    When NT setup gets to the screen where it asks you what type of system
    it is that you are installing (i.e. where you pick the specific HAL for
    your installation), I was picking "AS1000A 5/xxx" off the list. The
    particular box that I was working on did *not* have the Supplementary
    Hardware Diskette with the updated HAL. When I went to work on a
    second, identical, AS1000A, I found the updated floppy, and sure enough
    the HAL on that worked ok.
    
    So, what I missed was the fact that the HAL on the CD is no good.
    Anyway, thought I'd post this just for others' reference.
