TOOL NAME: AUTOMATIC LIBRARY GENERATOR (AUTOLIB)
 
FUNCTION: 
    1.  Generates libraries for the VAX LAYOUT SYSTEM (VLS) and for the
	MICROVAX based VALID schematic entry system
    2.  Generates hierarchical bodies for VALID schematic entry system

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 
    AUTOLIB can automatically generate libraries for both the VAX LAYOUT
    SYSTEM and for the VALID schematic entry system.  Once AUTOLIB is 
    invoked and the ALI (automatic library input) file is read in the user
    will be asked to input YES/NO to a couple of questions determining which
    library will be generated.  If AUTOLIB receives information from the
    ALI file about a standard shape file it will be automatically included
    in the xxx.vblt file if an existing vbl is not available.  If both the
    standard shape file and an old vbl exists then the user will be asked
    to choose which file they would like to use.  Based on the information
    AUTOLIB receives the appropriate files will be generated.
    The vbl's generated can be surface mount components, pga's or dips.
    Shapes for vbls can either come from the standard shape file or the
    existing vbl (if their is one).  The information that is given in the
    ALI file determines what kind of vbl is generated.
    AUTOLIB was developed to ensure that compatibility exists between the
    logical (VALID) and physical (VLS) space.  The compatibility is in the
    area of pin-names, pin-numbers, pin-types and loading information.
    AUTOLIB automatically generates the size, shape and signal names for 
    hierarchical bodies and ensures that the body is drawn on the appropriate
    grid points for VALID.

    XXX.ALI (mandatory) contains component information
    XXX.VBL (sometimes optional depending on whether or not user wants to
	     update an existing vbl) contains the existing physical info
    XXXSTDXXX.VBL (sometimes optional depending on whether or not the user
                   wants to generate a new vbl) contains mechanical info 
              
OUTPUT FILES/DATA: 
    XXX.GED - graphical information for VALID component
    XXX.PHYS_DAT - loading information for VALID, power & gnd pins, 
	           pin types
    XXX.PRT - title of component, abbrev of component and date last modified

    COMP.ERR - any errors/warnings found by the software
ERROR HANDLING: 
	When an error in the ALI file is discovered, AUTOLIB will output
	an error message to the COMP.ERR file and also to the user's
	terminal and then continue processing the ALI file.
