6432.0. "alarms internal error, mcc-e-noentity, mcc 1.3" by MUNICH::FERSTL () Thu Feb 29 1996 17:23

    A customer has the following configuration:
    
    Ultrix 4.3a with 128 mb, MCC 1.3.1
    
    The system was running fine quite a long time, but suddenly the 
    customer has proplems with alarm rules being disabled.
    
    The error message is:
    	alarms internal error, mcc-e-noentity, 
    	no corresponding entity instance exists  
    
    The first time when this happened the customer installed 
    /var/mcc and /usr/mcc new. Afterwards the alarms rules worked 
    again for a few days.
    
    Then he again got the above problems, but this time with other
    alarm rules being disabled than the first time.
    
    The status now is that whenever he sees this problem, he stops
    all mcc-processes and starts MCC new. Then alarm rules work again
    for a few days.
    
    Could it be that MCC V1.3 has a problem?
    Or could this be a problem with the memory or the disk
    (customer doesn't find any errors for memory or disk)

	Hello Birgit, This a known problem and we are working on that. But, even if we find a solution, it will be for DECmcc V1.4 only. Can I suggest you to ask your customer to upgrade its version ? 	The customer has called again and asked, if it would be possible to apply the patch for 1.4 on 1.3 (when it is available) He knows, that there is no support for this, but 1.3 isn't supported anyway. He would like to try it, if you don't know for sure, that it won't work. thanks for a short statement eva PS: I have no idea of MCC, I just had to take over, since Birgit is out of office for two weeks.

	Hi all, I checked his installation on Friday and did a rebuild of the parse table. The dictionary and parse table seem to be OK, but if I try to enroll the Alarms FM I get an error message: Cannot find MM file MCC-I- I've included the log file of the session. Seems that the guy didn't restore everything. Any ideas?
