I have a customer who is planning to purchase Network General's
distributed Sniffer product. They are also looking at DECmcc
as a separate puchase.
What kind of hooks are available from DECmcc to communicate with
the Sniffer boxes? SNMP? Other?
What kind of operations would this allow me to do? Just counters
and characterstics...or stuff more sophisticated like packet
level / traffic monitoring?
Any clarification on this issue would be appreciated.

Pat,
I read a blurb in Communications Week a couple of weeks ago that lead
me to believe that there would soon be an SNMP agent for the Network
General Sniffer.
We use a Sniffer. I am in the process of tracking down the info from
Network General (very low on my list, but will get done). You might
try contacting NG if you are in a hurry for the info.
An agent will likely buy you access to the Sniffer via the SNMP AM of
DECmcc (or any other network manager). I don't know how efficient the
thing will be since DOS is not multitasking, so don't expect much.
They may have an unusual way of implementing the agent such that you
can control the Sniffer via the use of the agent, OR, you can use the
Sniffer locally.
